IndTech Graduate School Conference 2024
From October 1st, the IndTech Graduate School embarked on an inspiring journey, gathering a dynamic mix of academic supervisors, industry mentors, and over 50 PhD students. The theme discussed was Industrial PhD Career Planning.
The event opened with a thought-provoking workshop led by IndTech board chair Anna Ericson Öberg. The session tackled a critical question: How can PhD students, companies, and academia collaborate to maximize value before, during, and after PhD studies? The response was overwhelming: more than 100 sticky notes were filled with innovative ideas and diverse perspectives from attendees.
The first day continued with four engaging keynote speeches, each offering unique insights into industrial PhD career development:
- Fredrik Ore (Automation Competence Leader, Scania Group) explored “Micro and Macro Perspectives on Competence Development at Scania Production & Logistics.”
- Malin Rosqvist (Program Director, PiiA – Processindustriell IT & Automation) shared strategies in “How to Create a Dream Project Connecting Industry and Academia.”
- Oskar Bruce (VP, Head of Operations Development & Operations EFT, Alfa Laval) highlighted the symbiotic relationship between academia and industry.
- Christer Norström (Professor, Mälardalens universitet) provided a behind-the-scenes look at “The Industrial PhD Experience at MDU and Hosting Companies.”
Day 2 was all about new beginnings, as the next IndTech Plus students were officially welcomed. Their energy and enthusiasm set the stage for future advancements, further strengthening the school’s commitment to shaping industrial PhD careers. Mats Jackson, Director of the IndTech Graduate School, wrapped up the event with a reflection on what lies ahead.
The IndTech Conference is not just an event; it’s a platform that accelerates knowledge exchange, strengthens industry-academia ties, and empowers the next generation of researchers. By fostering collaboration, we continue to push the boundaries of innovation and impact.
