IndTech Graduate School Meeting #5: Visit to Hitachi Energy Transformer Factory
The fifth IndTech Graduate School Meeting took place on February 6–7, hosted by the Hitachi Energy transformer factory in Ludvika.
This annual meeting serves to align student progress and is typically complemented by industry visits to provide insight into real-world industrial processes. This year, the visit was made possible through the generous support of Hitachi Energy.
More than 20 IndTech doctoral students, along with faculty members from Mälardalen University, had the unique opportunity to tour the factory’s production facilities. The group received a detailed overview of transformer technologies and manufacturing processes, led by Francisco Penayo, R&D Manager, and Davide Weinberg, Senior R&D Engineer. Both speakers offered in-depth explanations and engaged in discussions with students throughout the visit.
Hitachi Energy is a global leader in transformer technology, offering both liquid-filled and dry-type transformers, along with comprehensive life-cycle services and component support. The Power Transformer unit in Ludvika plays a critical role in the development of both global and local power grids and maintains active collaborations with universities.
Special thanks to Malin Sandberg, Administrative Manager, for coordinating the visit, and to Professor Subrat Sahoo (MDU) for facilitating the connection between IndTech and Hitachi Energy.
On the morning of February 7, the IndTech school management team and students held an internal meeting to discuss upcoming plans, including the international study trip to Italy scheduled for the fall, among other topics.
